FG begs electricity union to avoid strike

The Federal Government has urged members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) not to go on strike in response to the recent electricity tariff hike. The union has threatened to withdraw their services unless the government reverses its decision on removing subsidies for Band A customers.

The National President of NUEE, Adebiyi Adeyeye, reiterated the union’s stance in an interview, emphasizing their commitment to their warning. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission raised the electricity tariff for customers receiving 20 hours of power daily, affecting those classified under Band A, with their tariff increasing from N66 to N225 per kilowatt-hour.

Adeyeye highlighted the union’s concerns about the feasibility of providing 20 hours of electricity with the current infrastructure. While the union has not issued a strike ultimatum, Adeyeye stressed that the NUEE advises the government to address the issue promptly to avoid service withdrawal.
