On Wednesday, the New Zealand government announced plans to implement stricter regulations on e-cigarettes, including banning the sale of disposable devices and increasing fines for retailers who sell to individuals under 18 years old.

Casey Costello, associate minister of health, highlighted concerns about the rapid rise in youth vaping and emphasized the need for additional regulations to address this issue. Under the new rules, fines for retailers violating age restrictions on e-cigarette sales will be heightened, licensing of vaping retailers will be reviewed, and the sale of disposable vapes will be prohibited.

These measures aim to address the concerns of parents, teachers, and health professionals while still recognizing the role that vaping has played in reducing smoking rates in New Zealand.
