Elon Musk, the founder of Neuralink, announced that the first human patient implanted with a brain-chip from the startup has fully recovered and can control a computer mouse using their thoughts.

Musk shared the update during a social media event, highlighting the patient’s remarkable progress with no reported ill effects. He revealed that the focus now is on maximizing the number of mouse button clicks achievable through the brain-chip interface, demonstrating the device’s potential for seamless human-computer interaction.

Neuralink’s groundbreaking achievement follows the successful implantation of the chip in its first human patient last month, following regulatory approval for human trial recruitment. The technology utilizes a brain-computer interface implant surgically placed in a region controlling movement intentions, initially targeting tasks like cursor control or keyboard operation through brain signals.

With lofty ambitions, Musk envisions Neuralink’s technology as a tool to address various medical conditions, including obesity, autism, depression, and schizophrenia, through expedited surgical interventions with chip devices.
