Nigeria Customs Service to Distribute Seized Food Items

The Nigeria Customs Service announced plans to directly distribute seized food items to Nigerians as a response to the country’s food security challenges and the skyrocketing prices of essential food commodities.

Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the service, revealed the initiative in a statement released on Tuesday. The move aims to address the pressing issue of food affordability.

Maiwada emphasized that the distributed food items must meet safety standards to ensure they are fit for consumption by Nigerians. This assurance comes amid growing concerns about food quality and safety.

The decision to dispose of seized food items directly to citizens reflects a proactive approach by the Nigeria Customs Service to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians grappling with rising living costs.The initiative follows recent protests across several Nigerian states over the exorbitant cost of living, particularly the escalating prices of essential goods.
