President Bola Tinubu has appointed Hafsat Bakari as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, in a statement released on Tuesday. Bakari’s appointment is pending confirmation by the senate and is expected to bring her extensive expertise in financial intelligence to the forefront.

Hafsat Bakari, a lawyer and seasoned financial intelligence expert, has a background in anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and counter-proliferation financing (AML/CFT/CPF).

President Tinubu anticipates that Bakari will leverage her wealth of experience to effectively fulfill her duties, especially in the context of the administration’s efforts to combat illicit financial flows and other fraudulent practices.
