These rail projects are included in the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) of Ogun State.

Key Points:

  1. Project Details:
    • The red rail line will connect with the Lagos rail terminus at Agbado, extending to Marina. The proposed blue rail line is planned to pass through Agbara en route Okokomaiko-Iganmu, National Theatre in Lagos. These rail lines are part of the capital projects scheduled for execution by the Ogun State Government starting from 2024.
  2. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU):
    • In the previous year, the governments of Ogun and Lagos States signed an MoU focusing on the connectivity of the red and blue rail lines. The collaboration aims to leverage the rail lines by investing in extensions within Ogun State as part of the Lagos-Ogun Joint Development Commission initiatives.
  3. Multimodal Transport System:
    • Governor Abiodun emphasized that the investment in the red and blue rail lines is part of a broader multimodal transport system. This system, encompassing air, rail, and road transport, is concurrently being developed to facilitate the movement of people, goods, and services within and outside the State.
  4. Infrastructure Development:
    • The State is also undertaking the construction of a dry port at Kajola in Ifo, Ogun Central Senatorial District, in collaboration with the private sector. Additionally, the governor highlighted the launch of e-Mobility and Gas Mobility Projects, which will power the mass transport systems with electricity and gas, reducing emissions and earning carbon credits.
  5. Agro Cargo Airport and Aerotropolis:
    • A significant aspect of the State’s infrastructural development is the construction of the Agro Cargo Airport, forming the nucleus of an Aerotropolis. This airport complex will also house a Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAPZ), contributing to the economic growth of the region.

Conclusion: The announcement of the projected commencement of the red and blue rail lines in Ogun State in 2024 signifies a significant step forward in the development of essential transportation infrastructure. The multimodal transport system, including rail, air, and road networks, is poised to enhance economic activities and logistical operations within the State and beyond.
