The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning has revealed plans to present the 2024 budget to the House of Assembly before October concludes. This announcement was made during a training session for ministries, departments, and agencies personnel involved in the 2024 budget preparation process using the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) – Budget Preparation Sub-System.

The Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Ben Akabueze, shared that the budget office is diligently working to ensure timely submission of the 2024 budget to the National Assembly. This proactive approach aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to adhering to the January-December budget cycle, a practice sustained over the last five years.

The training focused on enhancing the collective capacity of budget personnel to effectively utilize the Budget Preparation Sub-System within the GIFMIS, reinforcing the goal of fiscal discipline and accountability in public fund management.

Akabueze emphasized the significance of the roles played by personnel in the budget process, urging them to align their activities with the nation’s development agenda and the promises made to Nigerian citizens by the current administration.

In conclusion, the director-general stressed the importance of integrating President Tinubu’s administration’s agenda into their responsibilities, aiming to achieve inclusive socio-economic growth, infrastructural development, and improved well-being for the Nigerian population. Additionally, he encouraged the MDAs to closely study the Budget Call Circular, ensuring compliance with its sections and minimizing errors during the budget preparation process.
