Nigeria LNG has confirmed the continuation of the force majeure that was declared in October, attributing it to extensive flooding that disrupted the supply chain. Force majeure is a legal concept referring to unforeseen external factors that prevent a contracting party from fulfilling their obligations.
According to NLNG spokesperson Andy Odeh, the ongoing force majeure is due to the unavailability of major upstream gas suppliers’ liquid evacuation pipelines, caused by acts of sabotage and vandalism, which still affects feedgas supplies.
Odeh added that NLNG is actively working with its customers to mitigate the impact of the resulting shortage in gas supply.
Opinion: The persistent disruptions in gas supply due to external factors highlight the vulnerability of energy infrastructure to various challenges, underscoring the need for robust contingency plans and collaboration among stakeholders.
