Federal Government and Lagos State Commence Demolition of Shanties and Extortion Points Near Lagos Ports
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, has initiated a joint operation to demolish shanties and extortion points surrounding the Lagos ports. The aim is to improve trade facilitation and enhance the security and safety of port users in the state.
The operation, which began on Sunday, involves a combined effort of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Nigerian Police, NPA’s security department, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expressed his support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of securing the port areas and maintaining their international standards. He affirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring that all hindrances to trade facilitation are eliminated.
The week-long operation will cover areas from Apapa Port Complex to Lilypond, and inward Apapa to Tin-Can’s first and second gates, followed by Kirikiri Lighter Terminal one and two.
