The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has demanded the detention, criminal prosecution, and punishment of everyone engaged in the contentious introduction of Nigeria Air as a potential national carrier.
Prior to the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, the controversial Nigeria Air was introduced by the immediate former minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika. The Committee Chairman did add that the legislators were not pleased with Sirika’s decision to proceed with the Nigeria Air’s takeoff despite still-in-effect court orders.
“We want to state for the record that neither the Committee nor the National Assembly played any part in the alleged launch of Nigeria Air or anything connected thereto,” the statement reads. Earlier, Emmanuel Meribole, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation, informed the parliamentarians that, in contrast to media allegations, Nigeria Air was unveiled and not launched.
On his part, a former Director General of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, Captain Roland Iyayi told the lawmakers that the national carrier project would not be beneficial to the Nigerian be public.
