The Federal Government intends to set up a basket fund to gather donations for the 2023 population and housing census, according to Clem Agba, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning.
Clem Agba stated that a total of N869 billion is required for the census, adding that the government has already contributed N291,5 billion but still needs to raise N327.2 billion more.
It is now advised to hold the census in May 2023, which was originally slated for March 2023.
For both the public and private sectors, accurate demographic data is crucial. “The upcoming census is a significant milestone in Nigeria’s development, as it provides an opportunity to collect accurate and reliable data on the country’s population and housing, which will serve as a vital tool for policymakers, the private sector, and the general public,” says one expert.
