In contrast to reports that International Oil Companies, Shell, Chevron, and other energy companies would finally say goodbye to Nigeria’s upstream, recent research has revealed that energy companies would be engaged in more well-drilling activities in the nation this year.

According to dependable sources, negotiations are currently underway between Chevron and its joint venture partner, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, to begin drilling operations in one of its key assets.

A pre-qualification process for rig owners for the drilling campaign, which is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of the year, was reportedly underway by the two. The same goes for Shell, which has offered more than a dozen turnkey contracts for work in the Niger Delta.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission had said the mini-bid round was an opportunity to spur new oil exploration and drilling activities in the prospective deep waters offshore Nigeria in 2023.The Commission Chief Executive, NUPRC, Gbenga Komolafe, said the mini-bid round was aimed at further development of the deep offshore acreages.
