According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 133 million people in Nigeria (63% of the population) are multidimensionally poor.

According to the research, more than half of Nigeria’s population lives in poverty on more than one dimension. With multidimensional poverty being higher in rural regions (72% of people live in poverty there compared to 42% in urban areas).

The North is home to 65% of the impoverished (86 million people), whereas the South is home to 35%. High levels of deprivation were also seen nationally in housing, healthcare access, food insecurity, and sanitation.

According to the national monetary poverty threshold for 2018–19, 40. 1% of Nigerians are considered to be poor, while the National MPI 2022 estimates that 63% of people are multidimensionally poor.
