One of the largest power projects in Nigeria, a 1,650 megawatt (MW) hydropower facility. With a $3 billion price tag has been cleared for development.

The project will be located in the north central state of Benue and sponsored through a public-private partnership. Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo’s spokeswoman, Laolu Akande, stated in a statement.

Increasing electricity supply is anticipated to be the primary priority of President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor, who will take office after the 2023 elections.

The largest economy in Africa struggles with low power output and inadequate transmission infrastructure. Which forces many homes and businesses to rely on diesel generators.

Authorities said that the government will give a concession to manage the $1.3 billion hydroelectric facility in Zungeru, which was funded by China.
