Telecommunications companies have expressed their opposition to MTN Nigeria’s request to participate in the upcoming 5G spectrum auction.

MTN’s intention to obtain additional Fifth-Generation spectrum in the upcoming 5G-spectrum auction scheduled for December 19, 2022, was deemed illegal by the operators.

During the question-and-answer sessions, stakeholders and operators who responded claimed that giving MTN another 5G license would make them a dominant player and would not allow other players to grow. Emphasizing that such a move was antithetical to the spirit of competition.

Telcos are outraged after the FG orders a tariff hike reversal. Telcos are given a 30-day deadline to resolve customer complaints. MTN’s General Manager, Regulatory Affairs, defended the company, saying it had entered the last auction in 2021.

Meanwhile, the NCC denied Airtel Nigeria’s request for an administrative assignment of spectrum to provide 5G services in the country after it participated in the previous auction.
