After being the first country in Southeast Asia to authorize a domestically created COVID shot, Indonesia is in discussions with numerous African nations, notably Nigeria; to export and donate their homemade COVID-19 vaccination.
“Export prospects for the vaccine are seen as limited. However, as the COVID shots are in oversupply globally; and Indovac is not developed to target the dominant Omicron variant,” according to the Indonesian approval of the shot; the detailed trial data of which has yet to be announced and is based primarily on coroanvirus variants preceding Omicron.
As a primary injection for adults, IndoVac was created in collaboration with the Center for Vaccine Development at Texas Children’s Hospital at Baylor College of Medicine. The final supply of IndoVac will rely on the government’s vaccination programs; although Bio Farma plans to produce 20 million doses this year.
