The Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP) project created during King Mohammed VI of Morocco’s visit to Nigeria in December 2016. It is an initiative of the federal governments of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Morocco; aimed to generate additional revenue for the country.

The NMGP Project aims to commercialize Nigeria’s substantial natural gas resources in order to increase the country’s revenue, diversify Nigeria’s gas export routes, and end gas flaring.

The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines of Morocco and the commission of the Economic Community of West African States will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a gas pipeline project with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The 7,000 km Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, will increase supply to Europe. Additionally, it is to reduce poverty, aid in the battle against desertification through a sustainable and consistent gas supply; and open up opportunities for other nations along the pipeline path to develop and export their own gas.
