Prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) confirmed yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the removal of the chairman of the party’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.

Specifically, Buni was fingered as the brain behind a legal action filed by a party member in court against the party to hold the national convention as scheduled.

A governor who did not want his name mentioned said, “Call it a coup or sacking, but the fact is that Buni is no longer the chairman of the CECPC.” Despite his efforts to oppose the party’s decision to hold its national convention on March 26, the President has defended him. However, when we presented the President with all documents demonstrating that Buni was opposed to holding the national convention on March 26, Mr. President was disappointed and approved his dismissal.
