UN, FG check, Validate Nigeria’s Social Protection Policy

The Federal Government and joint development partners from the United Nations held a meeting on Wednesday to conduct a quality check and validate the six-chapter revised National Social Protection Policy.

Social protection has become a veritable instrument in the African development agenda and Nigeria has embraced the policy.

The revised document underlines that an all-inclusive and integrated social protection policy will address poverty and economic vulnerability, as a lot of processes and consultations contributed to the development and review of the policy.

The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning announced on Wednesday that that the ministry in collaboration with joint partners from the UN had commenced the validation of the policy.

A statement issued by a media official in the Budget and National Planning arm of the ministry, Imaobong Udoh, stated that ministry held a webinar to enable stakeholders effectively understand the provisions of the NSPP and make input into the revision process.

The Director, Department of Social Development, Budget and National Planning, Omotayo Adeyemi, was quoted as saying, “The exercise is now at the critical stage and quality assurance is expected.

“The essence of this gathering is to reflect, evaluate the outcomes and decisions reached.” The Deputy Director, Social Development, Budget and National Planning, Sanjo Faniran, said the road map towards the final institutionalisation of the policy included getting feedback from stakeholders and partners.
