A UBA graduate who recently became the centre of an online controversy after addressing businessman Tony Elumelu by his first name has received an unexpected offer of ₦500,000, a VIP trip and an ambassadorial role. The offer was announced by Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, following the widespread reaction to the incident.
In a Facebook post, Ossai said he would give the young woman ₦500,000 in cash support and sponsor her trip to the fourth edition of the Delta Social Media Summit, scheduled for August 27, 2026, at the Mariam Babangida Leisure Park in Asaba. The package, according to him, will also cover her accommodation and VIP participation at the event.
The offer goes beyond financial assistance, with the graduate also expected to receive flight tickets to Asaba, five-star hotel accommodation, a guided tour of developmental projects in Delta State and a brand ambassador role for the Delta Social Media Summit. Ossai said the opportunity was intended to turn the controversy into something positive for the young woman rather than allowing the backlash to define her.
He also appealed to Nigerians to stop attacking the graduate online, warning that prolonged criticism could have serious emotional consequences. While acknowledging that she may have made a mistake during her encounter with Elumelu, he urged the public to show her support instead of continuing to subject her to harsh criticism. He also thanked Elumelu for correcting her, saying the moment could serve as a lesson about respect and social etiquette.
Ossai further invited the graduate to contact him so she could have an opportunity to tell her side of the story publicly. He said he wanted to provide her with a platform and help transform what began as an embarrassing viral moment into a positive experience. “Let’s turn this pain into purpose,” he said, signalling an effort to shift the conversation from online criticism to encouragement and opportunity.
