OpenAI has introduced a new $100 per month ChatGPT Pro plan, responding to long-standing demand from power users who need more advanced capabilities. The announcement, made on April 9, 2026, expands the company’s pricing tiers, which previously ranged from a free ad-supported option to a $200 premium plan. The new offering is positioned squarely between the existing Plus and high-end Pro tiers, giving users more flexibility based on their needs and budgets.
The updated pricing structure now includes a free plan with ads, an $8/month Go plan (also ad-supported), a $20/month Plus plan without ads, and the newly launched $100 Pro plan. Although OpenAI’s pricing page does not currently display the $200 plan, the company confirmed it is still available. Both the $100 and $200 plans are ad-free and target users who require higher performance, particularly developers and heavy users of ChatGPT’s tools.
A key highlight of the $100 Pro plan is its focus on coding through OpenAI’s Codex tool. According to the company, the new tier offers five times more coding capacity than the $20 Plus plan, making it more suitable for intensive development work. OpenAI says this move is designed to support users during demanding coding sessions where usage limits can become a bottleneck.
The introduction of this pricing tier also reflects growing competition in the AI space, particularly with Anthropic’s Claude, which already offers a similar $100 monthly plan. OpenAI claims its Codex tool delivers better value, offering more coding capacity per dollar compared to competitors. However, users should note that higher usage limits currently offered under the new plan are temporary and expected to be adjusted after May 31.
Despite the expanded offerings, OpenAI maintains that none of its plans provide unlimited usage. The $200 plan still delivers the highest limits—up to 20 times more than the Plus tier—designed for users managing complex, parallel workflows. Meanwhile, Codex adoption continues to surge globally, with over 3 million weekly users and rapid growth in recent months, signaling increasing demand for AI-powered development tools.
