The NNPC/Seplat Joint Venture (JV) has made a remarkable impact on the health and well-being of residents in Imo State through its signature Corporate Social Investment programme, ‘Eye Can See’. The initiative has screened 23,447 eye cases, conducted 797 surgeries, and distributed over 13,525 free eyeglasses to beneficiaries, offering life-changing access to essential eye care services.
Speaking at the opening of the 2026 edition in Owerri, Mrs. Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs and Social Performance at Seplat Energy Plc, emphasized that the programme aims to improve community health by offering not only eye care but also screenings for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes, along with professional counseling, medications, and referrals where needed.
The three-day outreach attracted hundreds of residents from Owerri and neighboring communities, averaging 700 screenings per day. Mrs. Afe highlighted that the high cost of eye care often places it out of reach for many, making the initiative vital. Since its inception in 2017, the programme has continued to deliver sustainable, high-impact social investments aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 on Good Health and Well-Being.
Representing NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Olanrewaju Igandan praised Seplat Energy for leading an initiative that restores vision and hope to host communities. He added that NNPC is committed to enhancing the welfare of people in areas where it operates, stressing that the programme is about more than eye care—it’s about fostering healthier, more prosperous communities.
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support. Dr. Fred Nnamdi, Lolo Igolo Njemanze, and Chief Ernest Onyeneke, all recipients of eye surgeries, described their experiences as life-changing and highly successful. They also commended the medical team for their professionalism and care, which has given them renewed vision and hope for a better quality of life.
