Transcorp Energy Limited has emerged as the successful bidder for key lots in the Federal Capital Territory under the World Bank–supported Utility Enabled Projects, coordinated by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). The win positions the company to deliver renewable energy solutions that target underserved communities across Abuja.

As part of the initiative, Transcorp Energy, the energy subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc, will deploy interconnected mini-grids that integrate with existing power distribution networks. The project aims to provide reliable and affordable electricity to homes and businesses, reducing dependence on costly self-generation while boosting energy access across the FCT.

The Utility Enabled Projects programme is designed to encourage private sector participation in Nigeria’s energy transition. By supporting decentralised renewable energy solutions, the programme complements the national grid, improves reliability, and expands electricity access in areas where conventional infrastructure has been limited. This approach aligns with REA’s mission to accelerate sustainable energy access through innovative public–private collaborations.

Commenting on the development, Transcorp Energy CEO Chris Ezeafulukwe said, “This renewable energy project marks a significant milestone for our company as we expand clean and reliable energy across Nigeria. Working with our consortium partners, we are confident that these solutions will strengthen local economies and improve livelihoods while supporting environmental sustainability.”

REA Managing Director Dr. Abba Aliyu also praised the achievement, noting that the programme attracts capable private sector partners committed to Nigeria’s electrification goals. The deployment of mini-grids in Abuja is expected to modernise the power sector, lower energy costs, and improve electricity reliability, contributing to broader socio-economic development in the country.
