Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially entered a new phase in healthcare innovation with the launch of Amazon Connect Health, an AI agent-powered platform designed to simplify administrative workflows for healthcare providers. The platform can handle tasks such as appointment scheduling, patient verification, and clinical documentation, helping clinicians focus more on patient care rather than paperwork.
Amazon Connect Health is HIPAA-eligible and integrates seamlessly with existing electronic health record (EHR) systems. AWS has partnered with multiple EHR software providers, data integrators, and patient engagement companies to ensure that the platform can be adopted smoothly across healthcare organizations of all sizes.
This move builds on AWS’s growing healthcare portfolio, which includes HIPAA-compliant services such as Amazon Comprehend Medical for analyzing unstructured medical data, Amazon HealthLake for organizing health information, and HealthOmics, a bioinformatics workflow platform. However, Amazon Connect Health represents the company’s first major offering of AI agents that can perform complex tasks on behalf of clinicians within a compliant platform.
Currently, the platform provides patient verification and ambient documentation features, with appointment scheduling and patient insights in preview. AWS plans to roll out additional capabilities like medical coding later in 2026. Pricing starts at $99 per user per month for up to 600 encounters, which aligns with the typical workload of primary care physicians.
AWS joins a competitive landscape as startups and major AI companies race to reduce administrative burdens in healthcare. Startups like Regard have been using AI to assist doctors since 2017, while larger players such as OpenAI and Anthropic recently launched healthcare-focused AI tools. With Amazon Connect Health, AWS positions itself to not only serve patients but also empower healthcare professionals with AI-driven efficiency.
