The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has officially opened applications for its AI for Good Innovation Factory, a global initiative aimed at supporting startups that leverage artificial intelligence to tackle pressing challenges in the education sector. Announced on ITU’s X page, the program encourages innovative solutions that improve access, inclusivity, and the overall quality of learning worldwide.

Startups selected for the program will have the opportunity to pitch technologies designed to deliver quality education in underserved regions and foster inclusive learning environments. According to ITU, the initiative seeks AI solutions that modernize how knowledge is delivered and consumed, ensuring that students across the globe can benefit from smarter, more effective learning tools.

Participants will be evaluated on a robust framework that examines the clarity of the problem addressed, market relevance, execution strategy, AI integration, and risk management. Teams will also be assessed on their expertise, scalability of their solution, and potential to make a lasting impact on learners worldwide. The program emphasizes practical innovation that can address real human challenges through technology.

Winners of the pitching session will receive exclusive opportunities, including a ticket and speaker pass to the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva, a startup pod, pitching time on the Frontier Stage, access to the Innovation Factory Accelerator, mentorship from industry experts, and networking opportunities with the UN and global partners. This platform is designed to help startups grow, scale, and attract funding while gaining media exposure.

AI is rapidly transforming education globally, from personalized learning to enhanced teaching methods. The EdTech industry, valued at $106.46 billion in 2021, is projected to grow to $457.8 billion by 2026. In Nigeria alone, the e-learning market is expected to reach $107.9 million by 2024, driven by increased demand for online learning tools and AI-powered personalized education, which studies suggest can improve student outcomes by up to 40%. ITU’s initiative comes at a pivotal time for harnessing AI to make education more equitable and effective worldwide.
