Nigeria’s energy future is poised for transformation, as experts at the 2026 NIPetE Oil and Gas Symposium emphasized the need for innovation-driven growth beyond crude oil dependency. Engr. Dr. Yetunde Aladeitan, FNSE, National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Petroleum Engineers (NIPetE) and Director of the Energy Research Center at the University of Abuja, called for a strategic shift toward value-based energy development anchored on global best practices.

The high-level virtual symposium, themed “Beyond the Barrel: Tax Reforms, Value Chain Optimization, and the Future of Nigerian Energy,” brought together engineers, policymakers, and fiscal experts to examine Nigeria’s evolving oil and gas landscape. Participants explored practical approaches to strengthen the sector, including upstream efficiency, gas development, and diversification strategies to reduce over-reliance on crude oil revenues.

Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, MFR, President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), represented by Deputy President Engr. Valerie Agberagba, FNSE, highlighted the urgency of creating a diversified, innovation-led energy ecosystem. The keynote address by Abudukerimu Sule underscored how the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 could incentivize investment, enhance competitiveness, and stimulate sustainable growth across the oil and gas value chain.

A robust panel discussion featured leading industry voices, including Engr. Ehimhen Okoh-Agunloye, Engr. Dr. Bukola Olusola, and Mr. Abayomi Abiona, FCA. Topics ranged from gas transition strategies to fiscal incentives, midstream and upstream optimization, and the role of engineering innovation in shaping a sustainable energy sector. Experts stressed actionable solutions over theoretical debates, ensuring policy reforms translate into real-world industry impact.

Dr. Aladeitan’s leadership philosophy shone throughout the symposium, emphasizing mentorship, policy influence, and bridging the gap between strategy and practice. As Nigeria navigates global energy transitions and economic reforms, stakeholders agreed that the future favors leaders who combine technical expertise with strategic foresight—qualities Dr. Aladeitan continues to bring to the nation’s energy ecosystem.
