OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Health, a dedicated feature designed to help users manage and understand their personal medical information. Announced in a January 2026 blog post, the new tool combines users’ health data with ChatGPT’s intelligence to deliver tailored guidance, making everyday wellness questions easier to navigate. This launch highlights the growing role of AI in personal health management.

Health-related queries are among the most popular uses of ChatGPT, with more than 230 million wellness questions asked globally each week. By connecting with apps and platforms like Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal, ChatGPT Health can provide responses informed by a user’s personal data. OpenAI emphasizes that the feature is meant to support medical care, not replace professional diagnosis or treatment.

Security and privacy are central to ChatGPT Health. The system operates as a separate space with enhanced protections for sensitive health information. Conversations in the Health feature are not used to train OpenAI’s broader AI models, ensuring user data remains private. OpenAI also encourages users to switch health discussions into this protected environment for added safety.

The development of ChatGPT Health involved collaboration with over 260 physicians across 60 countries, who reviewed more than 600,000 model outputs to ensure the feature’s accuracy and reliability. According to OpenAI, this process guided how the system prioritizes urgent medical advice, communicates clearly without oversimplifying, and maintains safety in critical situations.

ChatGPT Health is initially available to a limited group of early users across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, though some features like medical record integrations are currently limited to the United States.
