According to Bayo Onanuga via his X (formerly Twitter) account, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve new chief executives for Nigeria’s petroleum regulators following recent resignations.

The President nominated Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), requesting expedited confirmation.

The nominations follow the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe (NUPRC) and Engineer Farouk Ahmed (NMDPRA), both appointed in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Eyesan, an Economics graduate of the University of Benin, spent nearly 33 years at NNPC, retiring as Executive Vice President, Upstream, and previously served as Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy.

Engineer Mohammed, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, has held senior roles including MD of Kaduna Refining and Nigerian Gas Company, Group Executive Director/COO, Gas & Power, and board chair positions across major gas institutions. He was also announced as an independent non-executive director at Seplat Energy.

The Senate will consider the nominations for confirmation.
