Nigeria’s Oil Output Rises by 35,000 bpd in November as Production Recovery Strengthens

Nigeria recorded one of its strongest month-on-month production boosts in 2025, as crude output climbed to 1.436 million barrels per day (bpd) in November, up from 1.401 million bpd in October. The latest OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report for December 2025 confirms that the country added 35,000 bpd, marking its most notable rise in several months and signalling renewed momentum in the nation’s oil sector.

Despite the improvement, Nigeria’s production still falls short of its 1.5 million bpd OPEC quota, a target the country has struggled to meet for four consecutive months. Officials say the November increase reflects a gradual recovery as upstream security improves and major terminals optimise operations following months of disruptions.

Nigeria’s oil output had dipped sharply earlier in the year due to maintenance shutdowns and industrial action, with production slipping to 1.39 million bpd in September. While recovery efforts continue, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, recently stated that Nigeria plans to demand a higher quota, arguing that the current 1.5 million bpd allocation no longer matches the country’s actual production capacity.

Across OPEC, however, overall crude supply remained relatively unchanged, inching up by just 39,000 bpd to 25.17 million bpd in November. Saudi Arabia led the production gains, adding 48,000 bpd to reach 10.05 million bpd, while Libya, Kuwait, the UAE, and Venezuela also posted moderate increases.

Iraq saw the steepest decline, cutting production by 40,000 bpd amid renewed pressure to comply with OPEC’s output agreements. Congo also recorded an 8,000 bpd drop, while Iran, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea did not submit direct production data for the month, according to the report.
