The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has officially gone live on the 1Government Cloud Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS), marking a key milestone in Nigeria’s digitalisation agenda. The launch, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, underscores the government’s commitment to transitioning federal institutions to paperless operations under the Nigeria First Policy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Dr. Bernard Doro said the adoption of the platform aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the administration’s goal to digitalise government processes, reduce inefficiencies, and make public institutions more responsive to citizens. “This innovation will streamline operations and improve service delivery across our ministry,” he added.
Dr. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, hailed the move as a major milestone for public administration. She noted that the 1Gov ECMS facilitates automated workflows, enables real-time collaboration, and reduces reliance on paper. Walson-Jack encouraged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to integrate the platform, highlighting that 19 federal ministries have already gone fully digital and will no longer accept paper-based correspondence.
Galaxy Backbone Limited, the Federal Government’s digital infrastructure provider, continues to play a pivotal role in this transformation. CEO Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju emphasized that 1Government Cloud ensures all sensitive government data remain within Nigeria under local laws, reinforcing data sovereignty while supporting the target of a fully paperless civil service by December 31, 2025.
The 1Government Cloud initiative, launched in 2024, aims to digitise 70% of federal services by 2025. Several key MDAs—including the Ministries of Communications, Justice, Environment, and Steel Development—have already adopted the platform, creating a unified, secure, and efficient digital ecosystem. Analysts say this move not only enhances workflow automation but also strengthens coordinated service delivery, positioning Nigeria as a leader in sovereign digital governance in Africa.
