Seplat Energy Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s media landscape by hosting a two-day intensive workshop for journalists in Imo State. The training, held in Owerri, brought together 25 reporters from print and broadcast platforms, offering them the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s fast-changing media environment. This initiative continues the company’s tradition of investing in media development and professional excellence.
Representing the Director of External Affairs & Social Performance, Chioma Afe, the Manager of Corporate Communications, Stanley Opara, emphasized Seplat’s dedication to nurturing responsible journalism. He noted that the media’s role in shaping national narratives makes it essential for practitioners to maintain global best practices, especially in a digital era that demands accuracy, adaptability, and transparency. According to him, Seplat Energy remains committed to supporting journalists as they navigate modern communication challenges.
Also addressing participants, the Base Manager for Eastern Assets, Mr. Emmanuel Otokhine, encouraged journalists to fully leverage the opportunities that the training provided. He urged them to stay spontaneous, flexible, and open to emerging career prospects that rely on transferable skills—qualities that have become increasingly important in a transforming media landscape.
The workshop featured several facilitators, including Dr. Solomon Avbioroko, who trained participants on the psychology of communication, self-awareness, and effective newsroom interaction. Media specialist Mr. Nnamdi Uwaemulem introduced practical modules on report writing and mobile video journalism (MOJO), teaching journalists how to create compelling stories using only their smartphones. His second session explored media transformation, digital disruption, and the rise of new opportunities in content creation and media entrepreneurship.
Another facilitator, Mr. Abiola Adedeji, focused on digital marketing and social media strategy, showing journalists how data-driven storytelling can amplify their impact across platforms such as X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Participants described the workshop as transformative and practical, praising Seplat Energy for consistently investing in human capital development. The company’s initiative highlights its belief that a skilled and informed media is vital to shaping positive public discourse and advancing sustainable national development.
