The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has refuted a viral video claiming it partnered with a company to distribute petrol through motorcycle dispatch riders. Speaking on Sunday, company officials said the refinery has no link to the trending footage and is completely unaware of its source. The viral clip suggested that fuel could be ordered via WhatsApp and delivered directly to motorists by riders using small dispensers mounted on their bikes.

In the video, a man trying to avoid long fuel queues placed a fuel order through a chat platform. Minutes later, a dispatch rider arrived with a mini-pump attached to his bike and fueled the man’s vehicle. The advert, branded as “FuelUp,” boldly claimed it was powered by “Dangote Petroleum,” a claim that quickly stirred mixed reactions across social media. Some people praised the idea as innovative, while others raised safety concerns about transporting fuel on motorcycles.

Dangote officials, however, dismissed the claim as completely false. The Group Chief Communication Officer, Anthony Chiejina, described the video as “fake,” stressing that the refinery does not run such a service. Another official added that the refinery deals strictly with bulk buyers and has not entered any partnership to distribute fuel via bikes, emphasizing the need for the public to verify information before sharing it.

The clarification comes just months after the refinery began its direct fuel distribution scheme using hundreds of newly imported Compressed Natural Gas-powered trucks. The initiative marked a major shift in Nigeria’s fuel logistics, allowing more efficient and cleaner delivery of refined products. Dangote has also intensified efforts to modernize operations through advanced technologies, automated systems, and strengthened logistics infrastructure to meet increasing domestic demand.

Meanwhile, the refinery is pushing ahead with plans to scale up its production capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day. The expansion underscores Dangote’s long-term goal of becoming a dominant force in Africa’s energy market while supporting Nigeria’s fuel supply stability. With this growth strategy, the refinery aims to boost local availability, reduce import dependence, and drive industrial sustainability across the region.
