The Dangote Group has officially denied any connection to the truck involved in Wednesday’s tragic accident in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Social media and online reports had erroneously linked the company to the incident, which claimed approximately 10 lives when the truck reportedly suffered brake failure and crashed into shops, crushing pedestrians.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Dangote Group clarified that the truck, registered as Plate Number JJJ 365 XB, is owned and operated by an independent logistics company with no ties to the conglomerate or its subsidiaries. The company stressed that circulating claims suggesting the vehicle was carrying Dangote products were “false and misleading.”
The statement further explained that the truck involved was transporting crushed stones in reused sacks marked with various brand names, not any Dangote goods. Dangote Group emphasized that all its trucks are distinctively branded and easily identifiable, and are operated under strict fleet management and safety protocols.
Highlighting its commitment to safety, the company noted that all Dangote vehicles are tracked, maintained, and driven by trained personnel in line with rigorous compliance standards. It urged the public and media outlets to verify information before attributing incidents to the company, underscoring the importance of responsible reporting.
While expressing condolences to the families affected by the Akungba-Akoko tragedy, Dangote Group reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to road safety, regulatory compliance, and corporate responsibility across its operations both within Nigeria and internationally.
