The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), in partnership with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has launched a nationwide revenue recovery initiative to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal governance and ensure that all funds due to the Federation Account are fully remitted. The new initiative, unveiled in Abuja, aims to plug revenue leakages and boost financial transparency across key sectors of the economy.

Speaking during the official inauguration at the RMAFC headquarters, the Commission’s chairman, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, said the project represents a strategic and results-driven intervention to improve accountability in revenue administration. “This exercise is not a routine administrative action but a deliberate innovation to ensure every recoverable naira is transparently remitted,” Shehu emphasized.

The programme, backed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, involves the engagement of independent consultants to identify and recover unremitted revenues nationwide. Dr. Shehu noted that the collaboration between RMAFC and FIRS would enhance inter-agency coordination and strengthen the fiscal capacity of federal, state, and local governments.

Representing the FIRS chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, coordinating director Shettima Tamadi commended the initiative, saying it reflects a shared commitment to bridging Nigeria’s revenue gap. He expressed optimism that with stronger institutional cooperation and transparent systems, the country can achieve sustainable fiscal growth and reduce dependence on borrowing.

Lead consultant Temitayo Ojeleke described the assignment as a “national call to duty,” pledging to deliver results with professionalism and measurable impact within the six-month timeframe. The launch marks a major milestone in Nigeria’s economic reform drive, reinforcing the government’s broader mission to strengthen fiscal accountability, recover lost revenues, and stabilize the economy for inclusive national development.
