Mobile money continues to dominate Ghana’s financial landscape, with transactions reaching GHC354.1 billion in August 2025, according to the latest data from the Bank of Ghana (BoG). While this figure represents a slight decline from GHC355.4 billion in July, it underscores the growing reliance on digital payment channels across the country.

The total number of mobile money transactions surged to 831 million in August, up from 778 million in July, signaling a steady rise in the adoption of mobile payments. Registered mobile money accounts now stand at 77.7 million, with 25.1 million active users, reflecting significant progress in expanding financial access for Ghanaians nationwide.

Industry experts note that although the overall transaction value eased marginally, the increase in transaction volumes and active users demonstrates strong confidence in mobile money for everyday payments, business activities, and domestic remittances. This trend highlights a shift toward a more digitally empowered economy.

Interoperability among mobile money platforms also gained traction in August, with cross-network transfers totaling GHC4.9 billion, supported by 26.4 million transactions. Analysts suggest that this seamless connectivity between networks is key to fostering convenience and trust in digital payments.

Despite ongoing currency fluctuations and fiscal challenges, Ghana’s mobile money sector remains resilient. The continued growth in users, transactions, and cross-network payments cements mobile money as a cornerstone of the country’s financial system and a vital tool for driving financial inclusion.
