United Bank for Africa (UBA) is set to take center stage at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 2025) with the launch of a landmark whitepaper aimed at unlocking Africa’s vast economic potential. The initiative underscores UBA’s commitment to driving sustainable growth and fostering high-level dialogue between African leaders and the global community.

Titled “Banking on Africa’s Future: Unlocking Capital and Partnerships for Sustainable Growth,” the whitepaper will spotlight actionable strategies across trade, infrastructure, digital innovation, climate finance, and inclusive growth. According to UBA, the document is the first of its kind by a leading African financial institution at the UNGA, offering a roadmap for collaborative investments that position Africa not just as a beneficiary, but as a strategic driver of global prosperity.

In addition to the whitepaper, UBA will host a series of high-profile events, including the Business Council for International Understanding Roundtable via UBA America and the bank’s annual reception. These platforms aim to facilitate meaningful discussions between policymakers, investors, and business leaders, setting the stage for tangible outcomes and partnerships that will benefit the continent.

UBA’s Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, highlighted the strategic importance of these engagements, stressing that past discussions have often lacked actionable follow-through. “These conversations are fundamentally different because they will be followed by feasible, actionable decisions. UBA is committed to implementing these outcomes for Africa’s development and sustainability,” Elumelu said. He added that UNGA provides an unparalleled opportunity to showcase Africa’s potential to the world.

Oliver Alawuba, UBA’s Group Managing Director and CEO, emphasized the role of private sector players in Africa’s growth. He urged more organizations to actively demonstrate commitment through measurable impact, reinforcing UBA’s belief that Africa’s economic transformation requires both vision and action.
