Nigerian Breweries Plc, International Breweries Plc, and Champion Breweries Plc collectively recorded an impressive N1.09 trillion in revenue for the first half (H1) of 2025, despite persistent macroeconomic challenges in Nigeria. The surge represents a 53.2% increase compared to N711.58 billion reported in the same period of 2024, according to their unaudited half-year results.

Breaking down the figures, Nigerian Breweries led the pack with N733.19 billion in revenue, up 53% from N478.84 billion in H1 2024. International Breweries followed with N340.99 billion, also reflecting a 53% rise from N223.2 billion last year. Champion Breweries posted N15.9 billion in revenue, marking a 66.9% increase compared to N9.5 billion in the previous period. Analysts attribute this growth to strong consumer demand, strategic distribution, and increased sales during Easter and Sallah festivities.

Despite significant revenue growth, the industry continues to grapple with high operating costs, driven by inflation, naira depreciation, and soaring fuel prices, which averaged N939.5 per litre in December 2024 after peaking at N1,184.83 in June 2024. These cost pressures previously triggered losses across the sector, but the companies have now rebounded, reversing heavy losses recorded in H1 2024.

Nigerian Breweries shifted from a loss of N115.5 billion in H1 2024 to a profit of N130.84 billion in 2025. International Breweries swung from a N106.78 billion loss to a profit of N41.3 billion, while Champion Breweries reported a N2.29 billion profit compared to a N386.7 million loss last year. Notably, foreign exchange losses, which plagued the industry in 2024, significantly eased during the review period, supporting the improved bottom line.

Industry analysts at Afrinvest Limited project sustained profitability for breweries in 2025, citing inflation-driven price adjustments, improved consumer purchasing power following the minimum wage hike to N70,000, and strategic internal measures such as capital injections and product resizing. Afrinvest’s “Nigerian Brewery Sector Update” estimates a base-case profit before tax of N215.3 billion for the industry this year, signaling a strong recovery trajectory.
