Ghanaian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are being encouraged to leverage Canada’s labour market as a strategic pathway for growth and international expansion. Immigration is increasingly seen not just as a means for employment but as a gateway for businesses and investors to scale operations, boost revenue, and establish a presence in global markets.
Speaking at the Africa Business Festival: The CEO’s Connect Summit, the Chief Executive Officer of ASKIA Immigration Consulting Services, Marie Keita Amarteifio, highlighted the vast opportunities available in Canada. She explained that the country faces critical labour shortages, which open doors for skilled professionals and business-minded Ghanaians to tap into the market—provided they meet proper immigration requirements.
“Ghanaians have a lot of skills, and Canada values skilled workers, which is very important to establish,” Amarteifio stated. She emphasized the need for thorough preparation and compliance with immigration rules, noting that understanding the requirements is key to success. According to her, the opportunities exist, but businesses must adopt a strategic approach to entry.
Amarteifio further noted that ASKIA Immigration Consulting Services is committed to guiding individuals and businesses through the process. “You cannot just go and decide to apply for a visitor visa and get to Canada and start working,” she warned, stressing that work permits and other legal frameworks are crucial for those seeking to benefit from Canada’s immigration programs.
The Africa Business Festival, held under the theme “Unleashing Africa’s Business Potential: One Market, One Future”, brought together key government officials and industry leaders. Among notable attendees were Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, and Mohammed Adams Sukparu, Deputy Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations. The event aimed to foster cross-border collaboration and create new pathways for African businesses to thrive globally.
