Nigeria is accelerating its ambition to build a $1 trillion digital economy by 2030, driven by a dynamic ecosystem of government initiatives, global tech giants, and innovative startups. With growing investments in digital infrastructure and talent development, the country is positioning itself as Africa’s digital powerhouse. This momentum is expected to peak with the inaugural GITEX NIGERIA 2025, a premier technology and innovation summit that will unite leaders from across industries to foster collaboration and digital growth.
The event, held under the patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is supported by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). Backed by the Lagos State Government and organized by KAOUN International, GITEX NIGERIA will serve as a major platform to showcase Africa’s growing role in the global digital economy.
Activities will kick off in Abuja with a Government Leadership & AI Summit in September, bringing together policymakers and international stakeholders to shape the future of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure. Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, highlighted the significance of AI in Africa’s transformation, stressing the need for Nigeria to evolve from being a consumer of technology to becoming a global producer of AI-driven talent and solutions.
Following Abuja, the programme transitions to Lagos with two major events from September 3-4, 2025. The Eko Hotel Convention Centre will host the Tech Expo & Future Economy Conference, while the Landmark Centre stages the Startup Festival. Together, these events will attract technology innovators, investors, and policymakers in what is expected to be West Africa’s largest digital economy gathering. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described the summit as a catalyst for positioning Lagos as Africa’s innovation hub.
Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, reinforced the government’s commitment to digital transformation, describing GITEX NIGERIA as a cornerstone of Africa’s digital renaissance. He emphasized that the summit will not only enhance Nigeria’s AI infrastructure but also ensure inclusivity, scalability, and global competitiveness in the digital age. With these initiatives, Nigeria is setting the stage to become a leader in the global digital economy and achieve its $1 trillion target by 2030.
