Alphabet’s Google has announced plans to invest an additional $9 billion over the next two years to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing infrastructure in Oklahoma. The tech giant will develop a new data center campus in Stillwater and significantly expand its existing Pryor facility, aiming to boost U.S. AI capacity while also supporting education and workforce training programs.
The investment comes amid intensifying competition among Big Tech companies, each racing to scale up AI services and cloud capabilities. Google’s expansion aligns with its broader capital expenditure strategy, which saw Alphabet raise its 2025 spending forecast to $85 billion, up from $75 billion, with further increases expected next year.
A portion of the $9 billion funding is already accounted for in Google’s 2025 capital expenditure plan, while the remainder is earmarked for future growth projects. The initiative also complements the company’s recent $1 billion commitment to AI education and training programs for U.S. higher education institutions and nonprofits. Over 100 universities, including Texas A&M and the University of North Carolina, have joined the program.
The surge in AI-related investments reflects a wider industry trend, with rivals such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon, and Apple also ramping up AI and data infrastructure spending. Apple recently unveiled plans to invest $600 billion in the United States, while U.S. President Donald Trump’s onshoring push has accelerated infrastructure projects by companies like Micron, Nvidia, and CoreWeave.
Google’s Oklahoma expansion is expected to strengthen its competitive position against both domestic and Chinese AI rivals while meeting soaring demand for generative AI services. By integrating infrastructure growth with education initiatives, the company aims to create a robust pipeline of AI talent to fuel innovation and maintain leadership in the fast-evolving technology sector.
