The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is taking a leadership role in promoting the sustainable growth of Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) in Nigeria. At the upcoming 6th edition of the Telecom Sector Sustainability Forum (TSSF 6.0), scheduled for August 26, 2025, in Lagos, the NCC will deliver a keynote address and lead strategic discussions on unlocking the full potential of MVNOs in the country. The forum is organized by Business Remarks and is themed, “Unlocking Nigeria’s MVNO Potential: Status, Trends, Investment, and Future Prospects.”
The TSSF 6.0 forum is designed to gather top stakeholders in Nigeria’s telecom ecosystem, including Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), MVNOs, infrastructure providers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), industry associations, and technology experts. These participants will deliberate on how to strengthen MVNO integration into Nigeria’s expanding digital economy. With the recent issuance of 43 MVNO licenses, the market is primed for improved service delivery, broader market penetration, and increased competition.
Globally, the MVNO market is experiencing rapid growth, and Nigeria is positioning itself to benefit from this trend. Experts argue that, with proper regulatory support and improved infrastructure access, Nigeria can transform excess network capacity into valuable services for underserved communities. MVNOs also offer tailored, value-added services that enhance customer experience and support digital inclusion goals.
The NCC has already established a proactive framework by introducing a five-tier MVNO licensing system, each tier defining different service scopes and a 10-year validity. This initiative signals a transparent entry path for new telecom players. At the forum, the NCC will discuss its regulatory approach and reaffirm its commitment to enabling a business-friendly environment that fosters MVNO sustainability and competition.
Mrs. Bukola Olanrewaju, the Convener of the forum and Managing Editor of Business Remarks, stressed the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing. She noted that TSSF 6.0 is not just a networking platform but a catalyst for shaping policy, strategy, and investment in the telecom space. The forum will include panel sessions, presentations, and interactive discussions aimed at addressing challenges and generating actionable insights to propel Nigeria’s telecom sector into the future.
