Nigerian Stock Market Surges: Investors Gain N6.9 Trillion in 10-Day Bull Run

The Nigerian equities market has witnessed an extraordinary 10-day winning streak, during which investors collectively gained N6.902 trillion. This surge pushed the market capitalization above the N83 trillion mark, signaling strong investor confidence and reinforcing the resilience of the Nigerian capital market amid ongoing economic challenges.

From July 7 to July 18, 2025, the NGX All-Share Index (ASI), which reflects the general movement of all listed stocks, increased by 8.76%, closing at 131,585.66 points, up from 120,989.66 points. Consequently, market capitalization rose from N76.339 trillion to N83.241 trillion. This consistent upward trend also boosted the year-to-date return to 27.84%, as noted by market analysts who attributed the gains to improved investor sentiment and active trading.

During the latest trading session, the bullish momentum continued as the ASI rose by 1.00%, contributing an additional N823 billion in market capitalization gains. This sign of market liquidity and investor interest was further supported by a favorable market breadth—46 stocks gained while 25 declined—indicating broader participation in the rally.

Top performers included Learn Africa, NCR Nigeria, and UPDC, each gaining 10% in share value. Other notable gainers were Ellah Lakes and BUA Cement, which appreciated by 9.98%, and FTN Cocoa Processors, up by 9.97%. On the losing end, Red Star Express led with a 9.97% drop, followed by Union Dicon Salt, Academy Press, Sterling Financial Holdings, and First HoldCo, all of which recorded varying degrees of losses.

Trading activity also saw a massive jump, with total volume soaring by 180.57% to 3.348 billion units valued at N62.388 billion. FCMB Group led the volume chart with 1.310 billion shares traded, followed by Fidelity Bank and Access Holdings. The increased transaction volume reflects heightened market participation and sustained investor interest in fundamentally strong stocks.
