The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will headline the sixth edition of the Telecom Sector Sustainability Forum (TSSF 6.0), focusing on Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) as a transformative force in Nigeria’s telecom sector. The forum, themed “Unlocking Nigeria’s MVNO Potential: Status, Trends, Investment, and Future Prospects,” is scheduled for August 26, 2025. It aims to explore how MVNOs can expand digital inclusion, drive competition, and offer new economic opportunities through innovative service delivery.
With 43 MVNO licenses already issued under a five-tier framework, the NCC plans to use the event to highlight the regulatory and investment landscape that supports the MVNO segment. MVNOs operate without owning network infrastructure, making them a cost-effective solution for reaching underserved and niche markets. The NCC will deliver a keynote address on policy directions, market interventions, and its long-term vision for sustaining MVNO growth.
The event, organized by Business Remarks, will convene a wide array of stakeholders including Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), Internet Service Providers, infrastructure companies, and industry experts. According to the forum’s convener, Bukola Olanrewaju, the goal is to create a melting pot of ideas and ignite dialogue that will shape the future of MVNOs in Nigeria. Discussions will span investment, operational models, infrastructure access, and customer targeting.
Panel discussions and research presentations will give attendees deeper insights into the viability and profitability of MVNOs. These conversations are seen as essential for investors, regulators, and technology players interested in leveraging the evolving telecom landscape. As the global MVNO market grows, Nigeria’s readiness to adopt agile, customer-centric models is seen as a significant opportunity.
The NCC’s licensing structure, offering flexibility from light to full-service virtual operations, reflects a deliberate strategy to diversify the telecom market. With Nigeria’s growing mobile user base and increasing digital demands, experts believe MVNOs could unlock value by tapping into unused capacity and offering tailored services. TSSF 6.0 is expected to serve as a launchpad for deeper collaboration and strategic growth in this emerging segment.
