The African Digital Economy & Inclusivity Conference (AFDEIC) 2025 will be held in Abuja, Nigeria, from August 12 to 14. This major event is expected to attract key stakeholders, including government officials, business leaders, tech innovators, and academics, to explore the future of Africa’s digital economy and how artificial intelligence (AI) can contribute to inclusive growth. Themed “AI and Africa’s Digital Economy: Leaving No One Behind,” the conference will delve into critical topics like financial inclusion, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and AI adoption.
As the African digital economy is projected to contribute $180 billion to the continent’s GDP by 2025, the conference will focus on addressing the digital divide and fostering the expansion of broadband services. Despite notable advancements in fintech, e-commerce, and AI-driven technologies, challenges remain. A significant portion of rural Africa still lacks internet access, limiting the population’s ability to access digital services such as online education and financial platforms. A 2022 report revealed that 73% of rural Africans are disconnected from the internet.
Nigeria’s progress in developing its digital economy through initiatives like the National Digital Economy Policy has positioned the country as a leader in the region. However, a 2024 GSMA report showed that 61% of rural Nigerians remain without mobile internet access. AFDEIC will offer a platform for discussing these disparities and generating actionable solutions, with a focus on ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital transformation process.
The conference will feature high-level keynote addresses, panel discussions, and workshops on topics such as AI ethics, blockchain technology, and the expansion of mobile internet access. Additionally, investment and networking forums will provide opportunities for startups, tech companies, and policymakers to forge partnerships and attract investors. The event will be a critical milestone for Africa’s digital future, with discussions aimed at harnessing AI for economic development, enhancing cybersecurity, and driving inclusive growth across the continent.
