Nigerian Breweries Plc has reaffirmed its dedication to sustainability under its “Brew a Better World” (BaBw) agenda, which focuses on three key pillars: Environment, Social, and Responsible initiatives. During the 79th Pre-Annual General Meeting media briefing in Lagos, the company’s Corporate Affairs Director, Sade Morgan, emphasized that Nigerian Breweries would continue to innovate and collaborate to enhance sustainability efforts. This includes protecting the environment, supporting local communities, and promoting responsible alcohol consumption.
The company plans to further its sustainability objectives by achieving carbon neutrality at its production facilities. This will be done by adopting green energy solutions, enhancing the circularity of its products, and ensuring that input and output materials are reused. Morgan highlighted that sustainability is deeply embedded in the company’s operations, with significant advancements expected in the coming years.
As part of its environmental initiatives, Nigerian Breweries has invested approximately N2.5 billion in reducing its carbon footprint and implementing sustainable practices. The company has made notable progress toward its Zero-Waste to Landfill target, reaching an impressive 98%. Additionally, it has been actively involved in restoring natural resources by planting 283,904 trees at the Olokomeji forest reserve to promote a healthier watershed.
In terms of wastewater management, all seven of Nigerian Breweries’ operational breweries are equipped with fully functional wastewater treatment plants, showcasing the company’s commitment to responsible environmental practices. These ongoing efforts are a testament to the company’s dedication to achieving sustainability goals while contributing positively to both the environment and society.
