Key stakeholders in Nigeria’s capital market have expressed strong support for the recently signed Investments and Securities Act 2025 (ISA 2025), believing it will significantly enhance market integrity and provide expanded investment opportunities. Following the announcement of the Bill’s signing by President Bola Tinubu, industry experts emphasized the Act’s potential to transform the Nigerian financial landscape. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) confirmed that the ISA 2025 replaces the outdated Investments and Securities Act No. 29 of 2007, marking a new chapter for the nation’s capital market.

Oluropo Dada, President of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, praised the government’s commitment to improving transparency, efficiency, and stability within financial markets. He highlighted that the new Act would introduce reforms that modernize the regulatory framework, boost investor protection, and offer a robust platform for economic growth. Dada expressed confidence that the ISA 2025 would foster deeper market integrity, improve investor confidence, and increase the range of investment opportunities available to both local and global investors.

Sam Onukwue, Chairman of the Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria, underscored the transformative nature of ISA 2025, especially in strengthening regulatory oversight. He believes the Act will help restore market confidence and drive significant growth. Onukwue also noted that the legislation offers diversification opportunities by expanding the market beyond traditional equities and fixed income instruments, benefiting both investors and operators in the capital market.

Other industry leaders, including Eguarekhide Longe of NASD and Akin Akeredolu-Ale of the Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange, also voiced their support for the new Act. Longe emphasized the importance of updating the regulatory framework to address emerging digital products and ensure investor protection. Akeredolu-Ale praised the ISA 2025 as a key enabler for capital market growth, essential for the broader Nigerian economy. Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General of SEC, reaffirmed the commission’s authority and commitment to aligning Nigeria’s capital market operations with international best practices.
