In the fourth quarter of 2024, TikTok took down 2.4 million videos from Nigerian users due to policy violations, according to the company’s latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report. Nigeria was among the top 50 countries where content breaches occurred, though the U.S. led with the highest number of removals at 8.5 million. In total, TikTok removed 153 million videos globally during this period.

The content violations removed across the top 50 markets were primarily related to breaches in areas such as Integrity and Authenticity, Privacy and Security, Mental and Behavioral Health, and Safety. TikTok emphasized that 90 percent of all content removals came from these key markets. The company also reported its ongoing efforts to ensure platform safety and combat harmful content.

Beyond video takedowns, TikTok removed a staggering 211.5 million accounts during Q4 2024. Of these, the vast majority—185.3 million—were identified as fake accounts, while 20.5 million accounts were linked to users suspected of being underage. Another 5.6 million accounts were removed for unspecified reasons. The company continues to focus on identifying and eliminating fraudulent activities and fake engagement on its platform.

Despite these efforts, TikTok is under increasing scrutiny from global regulators. In October 2024, a coalition of 13 U.S. states and the District of Columbia filed lawsuits against the platform, accusing it of failing to protect young users. The lawsuits claim TikTok’s addictive design exploits the vulnerabilities of children, raising further concerns over its content moderation practices.
