Meta’s Instagram service experienced a widespread outage across the U.S. on Thursday evening, with users facing difficulties accessing the platform. However, by 8:34 p.m. ET, the number of reported incidents significantly dropped, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
Earlier in the evening, Downdetector had logged a peak of 19,431 incidents, but by the time the situation began to stabilize, the number of complaints had fallen to just 429. This indicates that the majority of affected users were able to regain access as the issue was resolved.
While Downdetector aggregates outage reports from users to track the problem, it is important to note that the actual number of affected users may differ from the reported incidents. The website provides a snapshot based on user-submitted reports, which may not capture the full scale of the outage.
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has not yet issued a comment on the outage. Despite this, the swift resolution suggests that the platform’s technical team managed to address the issue effectively, restoring service for the majority of users.
