The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved a total of N2,183,399,860 for various contracts within Abuja, with a significant portion allocated to the procurement of a N242.8 million Microsoft 365 license for the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS). FCTA Minister, Nyesom Wike, shared the approval details via his official Facebook page, highlighting the financial commitment to enhancing the efficiency of the FCT’s internal operations.
The primary aim of the Microsoft 365 license is to digitize the processes of the FCT-IRS, which is a major step in modernizing the revenue collection systems within the nation’s capital. According to Michael Ango, the acting Executive Chairman of FCT-IRS, the move will help automate many manual processes and improve communication and record-keeping by shifting information to the cloud, reducing reliance on paper-based systems.
In line with Wike’s focus on strengthening infrastructure and revenue generation in the FCT, the approval for the software license is expected to improve the IRS’s operations and efficiency, contributing to better revenue collection. This, in turn, is expected to aid the development of the capital under Wike’s leadership. The digital transformation effort is seen as a key factor in enhancing the overall performance of government agencies.
The approval also includes other key contracts, such as a N1.94 billion investment in earth-moving machines for the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), aimed at improving urban development management. These efforts are part of the broader ongoing investment in FCT infrastructure, which also includes previous investments of over N89.2 billion in road projects and educational facilities in the last year.
