In a significant move towards strengthening bilateral relations, the United Kingdom and Nigeria have officially launched the Creative Industries Technical Working Group. This initiative is part of the UK-Nigeria Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership (ETIP), aiming to foster innovation and collaboration within the creative sectors of both nations.
The launch event, which took place in London, included a matchmaking session for leaders in the UK and Nigeria’s creative industries. This step is seen as a major milestone in the relationship between the two countries, aiming to enhance cross-border creative collaborations that will drive sustainable economic growth and innovation.
Florence Eshalomi MP, the UK’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria and Co-chair of the Creative Technical Working Group, highlighted the cultural ties between the nations and the role of creativity in sectors like music, film, fashion, and arts in both countries. The launch is seen as a commitment to leveraging these shared cultural strengths for future collaboration.
Prince Baba Agba, Special Assistant to Nigeria’s President on Creativity, stressed the importance of utilizing the UK’s expertise in the creative industries. He emphasized that the Working Group’s efforts would lead to actionable results, benefiting creators, businesses, and stakeholders in both the UK and Nigeria through impactful partnerships.
